Raylec Power is a versatile electrical contractor specializing in construction, complex system installations and a wide range of maintenance services. Raylec Power has been serving commercial and industrial customers on Vancouver Island, and throughout British Columbia, for over thirty years.

A new and exciting career opportunity exists at Raylec Power LP for an Electrical Estimator. This full-time position will be based out our Langford office (preferred), or Nanaimo office and will report to the General Manager.

The successful candidate shall have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Electrical Estimating.
  • Strong proficient in Adobe and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project).
  • Experience and proficiency with Accubid estimating products is required.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license with a clean Driver’s Abstract is required.
  • Trade Journeyman Electrician Certification is an asset.
  • Proven experience bidding projects in the $1 to $2 million range.
  • Experience preparing preliminary estimates and budgets at various stages.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge of traffic control systems, sub-division work, airfield and other electrical power systems.
  • Knowledge of local markets and suppliers.
  • Excellent organization, time management and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent technical, analytical and numerical skills.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and/or coordinate the preparation of full cost estimates for design build or general tender work.
  • Examine proposals, blueprints and specifications to determine the time periods necessary for a project.
  • Create project plans from estimates, and define tasks, schedules, and necessary personnel.
  • Confer with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, and negotiate and use local expertise to estimate costs.
  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
  • Review all final estimate packages prepared by others to ensure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation.
  • Present estimates to senior management for review and approval.
