National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Mainroad Group observing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

On October 2nd, all the Mainroad operating businesses in Alberta and British Columbia will observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) as a statutory holiday (day in lieu of September 30th). The NDTR has been established to honor First Nations, Inuit and Métis survivors, their families & communities, support public commemoration of their history, and ensure the legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.

The decision to recognize NDTR across all Mainroad Group business operations aligns with one of our Mission statements; We are an ethical corporation that cares about the communities in which we live and work.  Engagement with indigenous people has become extremely important in the work Mainroad performs not just as a highway maintenance contractor but in all aspects of our business. We are grateful to see that the Province of British Columbia passed legislation early this year to make NDTR a statutory holiday. As an employer of choice we strongly believe that we need to observe this important day as it reflects on our company values and sends a message of support to our indigenous stakeholders.” – Peter Ashcroft, President and CEO
