During a two week period in December, Mainroad South Island coordinated a winter awareness roadside vehicle inspection campaign. Thanks to the efforts of our friends in the R.C.M.P. and the C.V.S.E., checks were done on the TransCanada Highway, both north and south bound, on either side of the Malahat. The purpose was to make drivers aware of the necessity of having good winter tires, carrying chains, and using safe driving habits.
Mainroad provided and handed out over 800 winter awareness pamphlets. The R.C.M.P. was responsible for checking private vehicles and the C.V.S.E. looked after the commercial inspections. The public was very receptive to our combined efforts and the R.C.M.P. and C.V.S.E. found the majority of vehicles in compliance with winter regulations.
I would like to thank all those involved and look forward to another successful winter safety awareness campaign next year.
