Mainroad Crews Thank You for Your Patience this Spring

Every day, roadside workers are put in danger by speeding motorists. Unlike working in an office, a classroom, or in a store, Mainroad crews are expected to deal with vehicles driving right through their work zone.

Distracted driving can look like a lot of things. It might look like someone using their cellphone while driving. It can look like someone ignoring speed limit signs. Too regularly, it can look like someone disregarding cones and putting roadside workers’ lives in danger.

The Slow Down, Move Over legislation was put into place to protect vulnerable workers. In British Columbia, motorists are required to slow down and move over for all vehicles stopped alongside the road that have flashing red, blue, or yellow lights. Motorists must slow down to 70km/h when in an 80km/h or over zone and 40km/h when in an under 80km/h zone.

Mainroad crews will be out working to keep the highway safe for you 24/7— in the heat and in the rain. Give them the courtesy of your patience. They all have families they need to get home to at the end of the day, and they know that you do too.
