Last week, the Mainroad Group leadership team in Cloverdale strapped on their aprons and worked together to cook and serve meals for 150 people and families at the Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver.

The team took part in an ‘Ultimate Dinner Experience.’ Each person was assigned a station to help prepare one of the meals, and afterwards, they served all the families. They also got a tour of the facility.
The Ronald McDonald House is a home away from home for families with children receiving long-term or extensive care at BC Children’s Hospital. Up to 2000 families will reside in the Ronald McDonald House in a given year. Families come from all over BC for care, and the Ronald McDonald House provides the necessary lodging for those who may have to travel long distances to get the services they need.
Time spent together as a family is so important for healing. Their facility is a sanctuary for seriously ill children and their relatives. Hotel fees, care for siblings, and unsustainable hospital stays pile even more onto struggling families. The Ronald McDonald House looks after these individuals thanks to generous donations and volunteers.

The Mainroad team prepared Surf and Turf— featuring roasted flat iron steak with garlic butter prawns —fully loaded baked potatoes— with sour cream, green onions, and chopped bacon —grilled lion’s mane mushrooms with garlic butter, and asparagus. There were also mixed leafy greens with extra virgin olive oil dressing and a warm apple crumble with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

Cash donations are always extremely helpful and appreciated, but there is also something very special about getting to serve your community with hands-on action.
It was a very meaningful and impactful experience for the group.
