Summer brings increased traffic to our roads and highways. Mainroad reminds motorists and residents to be prepared for road maintenance and construction activities.
During the summer season, Mainroad crews in the Lower Mainland, Howe Sound, South Vancouver Island, East Kootenay and the South East Stoney Trail in Calgary will be conducting maintenance activities such as pavement marking and patching, bridge deck repairs, sign cleaning and replacement, culvert repairs, dust and drainage control, mowing of vegetation, roadside fence repairs and so on, where applicable.
To minimize impact to the driving public, our aim is to schedule road maintenance activities during off peak traffic hours. Before heading out, please check for activities scheduled in your local area as well as current road conditions and weather forecasts. In British Columbia, please visit DriveBC and in Alberta, please visit 511Alberta.
When approaching a road maintenance crew, please slow down and drive with extreme care. Please stay alert, minimize distractions and show respect for the person working at the side of the road. Every day thousands of workers in British Columbia are depending on drivers to keep control of their vehicle in a Cone Zone. Mainroad proudly supports the ConeZoneBC campaign.
Mainroad’s key strategic initiatives is public safety. Before heading out, please prepare your vehicle for summer driving and for road safety tips, visit ICBC and Saferoads Alberta. Mainroad maintains 24-hour hotline information for reporting of accidents, unsafe road conditions and road kill. The call center is used to update DriveBC and 511 Alberta, dispatch additional personnel and record public communication as required.
We all have family and friends using the roads we maintain and our crews are proud of the work they do to ensure that happens. This summer, please drive safe!
