Artifacts found by G&E Contracting in Lake Louise, Banff National Park

The sharp eyes of G & E Contracting crews under Project Manager Kevin Breti led to an interesting find in the hamlet of Lake Louise in Banff National Park.    In October of 2011, the workers were digging a trench near the Lake Louise Warden Office to house cable and fibre optic lines as part of the Trans‐Canada Highway Twinning Project.    The men found bottles, china fragments and some mystery objects buried less than a metre below the surface.    Quick thinking on behalf of the company led to the careful removal of these items, which were sent to Parks Canada archaeologist Gwyn Langemann in Calgary.    As a result of the find, Gwyn came to Lake Louise in the spring and gave two talks to Parks Canada staff and highway contractors about the rich archaeological history of the region.
