On February 20th, 2013, Wayne Kiland, Wrecker for Mainroad received a Delta Police Board Commendation.
Mr. Kiland, on May 30th, 2012 police received a call that a female jumper had been observed on the Alex Fraser Bridge. While the police were dispatched, the complainant advised that he then observed that you had stopped your truck behind the femaleâs parked car in the southbound lane of the Alex Fraser Bridge, and you had exited your vehicle and went over to the female in an attempt to stop her from jumping.
You managed to prevent the female from jumping and when police arrived on scene, you had the female jumper secure in your vehicle. She was apprehended under Section 28 of the Mental Health Act and transported to Surrey Memorial Hospital. It was later found out that this despondent female had tried a number of times to commit suicide having been seen just the week previous for attempting to drink bleach.
Wayne Kiland, your quick thinking and actions with regards to this despondent and suicidal female, certainly prevented her from taking her own life by jumping off the Alex Fraser Bridge. For your creditable actions in this regard, you are hereby commended with a Police Board Commendation.
