Event Details
Mainroad is a Winter Driving Alliance Partner and is a visible supporter of the Shift into Winter campaign.
DriveWise BC, specializing in road safety and driver education, will be on site with their Winter Driving Simulator inviting participants to learn how to drive in the snow and how to prepare for the unexpected.
The BC Construction Safety Alliance is providing a local artist to teach kids painting techniques and help everyone decorate a Mainroad plow. The BC Construction Safety Alliance will be on site to promote safe winter driving and encourage drivers to ‘Slow Down’ when passing road workers and going through workzones.
Plow Truck Safety – Participants will learn what happens when a plow truck is operating at full speed with the wing extended. Motorists and residents will know firsthand the risks of passing a plow truck and the impact to their safety and vehicle. Through an interactive activity, we will demonstrate to drivers (and future drivers) what they can see in the blind spots of a plow truck. Participants will be able to climb into the Plow Truck Operator’s seat and will be challenged by Safety Driven to spot the vehicle positioned on the side, in front of the wing and in front of the plow truck. This will visually demonstrate the limited field of vision that a Plow Truck Operator has and why it is important for everyone to keep a safe distance and always stay alert when approaching highway maintenance vehicles such as snow plows and salt or sand trucks.
Visit Kal Tire‘s indoor and outdoor booth and winter tire display for valuable tire safety information and learn how to be safe on the road. Kal Tire is giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet – for your chance to win it, visit our indoor and outdoor displays, Tweet your photo with hashtag #shiftintowinter and #kaltire.
