On December 19th, 2022, Mainroad received a shipment of de-icing salt in the Port of Vancouver which is currently being offloaded to our various storage facilities tomorrow, Friday morning, December 23rd, 2022.
The demand for de-icing salt has been extreme and unusual this early into the winter season. We encourage everyone to use salt responsibly to ensure availability. Road safety is our top priority and we strive to ensure product is available for use on roadways. We primarily use two materials in the Lower Mainland for winter road maintenance: anti-icing brine and de-icing salt with winter sand as required. The use of a specific material is determined by the forecast, actual weather conditions and in accordance with the standard set by the Ministry.
Mainroad crews are actively working around the clock to deal with the weather conditions. Once again, the public is advised not to use the roadways on Friday unless for emergency reasons.
