Shift Into Winter
To address the issue of winter driving safety, a group of road safety stakeholders from across British Columbia formed the Winter Driving Safety Alliance in 2006. As a member of the BC Road Builders and Heavy Construction Association, Mainroad is a Winter Driving Safety Alliance partner. One of the group’s initiatives is “Shift into Winter“, a public awareness campaign designed to inform B.C. drivers about the importance of safe winter driving.
Winter causes dangerous conditions that require preparation, knowledge and skill to navigate safely. Snow, ice, slush, rain, and fog affect driving conditions in different ways. When winter is upon us, the campaign is a reminder for motorists and residents to be prepared for winter driving conditions and the unpredictability of the season.
Mainroad is a visible supporter of the campaign
We actively promote Shift into Winter through the fall and winter season and especially during major weather events. Utilizing all of our communication channels, hosting public facing events including local school engagement, purchasing advertisements, and producing public education videos, are just some of the ways we reinforce the message of being prepared for winter driving conditions and to highlight snowplow safety too! We invite you to connect and follow us on social.
Prepare yourself for winter conditions
Before heading out, visit www.drivebc.ca for current road conditions, weather forecasts, and real-time conditions via Drive BC’s webcams. Please report accidents, unsafe road conditions and road kill to Mainroad’s 24-hour hotline. This hotline is used to update DriveBC, dispatch additional personnel and record public communication as required.
