Mainroad Howe Sound Contracting apologizes to those motorists caught in the delays along Highway 99 that have occurred this week.
Highway paving was being performed as part of the annual remediation plan in advance of the coming winter. “The volumes of traffic we experienced while carrying out this work were far greater than expected”, says Darren Ell, General Manager. “Though daytime lane closures are permitted, we’ve learned that work that we were able to do during the day in the past is now not possible due to increasing daily traffic volumes throughout the Whistler corridor. Future work of this sort will be conducted during off peak hours and we’re very sorry for the inconvenience that we have caused”.
On Wednesday morning, Mainroad crews will be moving to the Pemberton area. On August 23rd, paving work is scheduled to start at 6:30 am on Highway 99 just North of Portage Road and through into the Village of Pemberton ending at 6:00 pm. On Thursday morning, August 24th, Mainroad has scheduled paving work at 6:30 am on Portage Road in the Walkverville area ending at 6:00 pm.
Single lane alternating traffic will be in place during this scheduled work and cue lengths will be closely monitored and minimized as much as possible.
